  • Who in The St Petersburg Times wrote the comment about the song? Other writers are mentioned from other publications.
The reviewer's name was not mentioned in the article, which made me scratch my head. It's the same with The Philadelphia Inquirer. I've used both newspapers since they've really helped me out in many articles, and for some odd reason music articles have no author. :-/ CarpetCrawlermessage me 02:36, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    I wish very much to have any information about the interpretation of the song's lyrics and music. Is there anything from Shear about why he wrote it? What is it supposed to be expressing? How about what reviewers noted of the sound of the song? How is it described? What about Lauper? What attracted her to the song? What does she think it means?
I'll do my best to look. Unfortunately, I do not expect to find anything, since I've searched high and low for such specific information. In all of the Shear interviews I could find, it was only mentioned in passing, and he only addressed the popularity of the song. I randomly read a comment on Youtube that someone said that Shear told them the song was about a one night stand, and I searched high and low for a source, and found no luck. The sound of the song I may be able to find something, but once again the song is not as notable as her other songs from the album (Like "She Bop" and of course "Girls Just Want to Have Fun",) so I can't make any guarantees. And RE: Lauper. Most of the songs on her early albums were cover songs. In fact, Lauper didn't truly begin writing ALL of her own songs for her albums until "Hat Full of Stars". In fact, "Girls" wasn't written by her, and another single, "Money Changes Everything" was a cover of a song by The Brains. I have heard numerous different stories on why she had cover songs on her albums, and all of them from unreliable sources, so I left that alone. This is one of my favorite songs. I remember it very well when it was released, which dates me... The article is on hold right now. Please see to the above points and do whatever you can to find more information about the reason/interpretation of the song. Many GA song articles have a description of the song's lyrics and musical structure or instrumentation. Holds usually last 7 days. More to be comprehensive instead of skeptical, I searched several music databases, a university library and GoogleBooks and GoogleScholar (last) and found nothing about the interpretation of the lyrics. Bummer. --Moni3 (talk) 13:57, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that's the problem I went through, too! My university library even has a full Newsday archive... no luck. Legolas was able to find the Music Structure, though, so that's a plus at least. Very glad we were able to expand the article in any way we could at this point. I'll try Google News one more time, but I don't think I'll find anything. We'll see!
