'Free' image?[edit]

The image is currently listed as all right's reserved on its Flickr page, but was under a Creative Commons when I uploaded it. Is there a way to check whether the licence changed? Sabine's Sunbird talk 01:10, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Technically, they can't be revoked, but I think it is best to respect the owner's wishes and delete the image. However, it may be worth contacting the photographer and asking if it would be possible for them to rerealease it. I'm not going to delete it for now, as I think this is a rather grey area. I've thought about this a little and chatted with some others (obviously, I'm responsible for this edit, yadda yadda) and I think we've had the image a long time, and, presuming it was originally tagged as such, it was tagged as CC for long time on Flickr. This means that it doesn't seem to have been a mistake that it was uploaded under CC, and, as the license is irrevocable, it is within our rights to keep the image. However, I am going to contact the photographer and ask them what they want to happen here. J Milburn (talk) 18:50, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Message left for photographer here. Now waiting for a reply. J Milburn (talk) 19:06, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
These license changes just highlight why it is best to upload Flickr images to Commons, they get reviewed there and that confirms the eligibility of the license at the time of upload, even if later changed. Still that doesn't solve this problem, contacting the Flickr photographer is the best bet, hopefully they will confirm that the image was indeed previously under an acceptable CC license. Or maybe they'll change the license to an acceptable CC one. Polly (Parrot) 19:10, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That is what I do now. It isn't the first image that has changed licence on me, but I uploaded this one a long time ago. Sabine's Sunbird talk 23:23, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
