@Midnightblueowl: This is probably PD. I have difficulty believing this was put in a box for 70 years before it was first published. Now we just need to prove it has been published sometime earlier than the immediate source. Thank you for your message, Finnusertop. I'm not aware of any earlier publications, unfortunately. Certainly, the image does not appear in any of the earlier publications which I have cited within the article, so it is possible that the photograph was taken and then stored in a museum archive without appearing in print.
