Other than it being at the time of the Iranian hostage crisis, the circumstance and significance of this particular image has not been established. I think it captures an intense moment, probably partly by accident as happens with all great photos, which makes it art. I remember I was in junior high school during the hostage crisis, and my first period teacher was retired Colonel Branstetter, and he told us of the failed rescue operation before it hit the news that day, saying his friends still in the Army let him know early that morning.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.197.51.25 (talk • contribs)

Even the ancestors of "native Americans" came here from somewhere else. If the sole criteria for being a legitimate inhabitant of this country is ancestral origin, their claim is as legitimate as anyone else's who was born here.

I can sort of read the back of the sign.
