Based on the Scottish flag?[edit]

The San Andres y Providencia flag is the replica of the Saint Andrew's cross on the official flag of Scotland, also has a blue background. I have my doubts on the islands are a result of the British empire or the previous 17th-18th century attempts by the then Scottish kingdom to establish a colony in Colombia with Panama (the Darien province), in which has failed and the Scots abandoned the settlement with fortifications based on Scottish castle architecture. The two far-off islands were also in dispute by the US government in the late 19th century, but they were awarded to Colombia instead of Central Americans (Nicaragua claimed them as well) in the 1920's peace treaty when Colombia admitted their defeat to the US armed forces over the Panama Canal fiasco and land grab in 1903. + 71.102.11.193 (talk) 05:37, 10 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
