On what authority is this flag considered the "Flag of Jihad"? Is it a purely Wikipedia designation? I am recreating this page because I believe this is an interesting and potentially controversial question. YusufAlBinVeryNaughty (talk) 14:12, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

used indiscriminately on wikipedia[edit]

this flag image is used in an indiscriminate, anachronistic and frequently ridiculous way here on wikipedia: just look at its usage on List_of_wars_1800–99!! Sorry, guys: this is a very recently introduced flag used by a group of jihadist militias/movements/parties in several places of the world, but it WAS NOT used in the 19th century nor in the Afghan wars until presumably 1995/96 (exact date needs to be determined). I'd suggest to remove the image of this flag from all pages, where it can not be supported by sources--176.94.9.147 (talk) 14:28, 24 June 2014 (UTC).[reply]
