Сад. Под деревом на низкой красной скамье сидит Василиса Мелентьева, одетая в желтый атласный сарафан и синюю душегрейку. На голове кокошник с жемчугом и цветными камнями, левой рукой придерживает фату, правая лежит на скамье. Справа выходящий из-за дерева Иван Грозный в лиловом кафтане и скуфье, с посохом в руке. Справа бревенчатая стена мастерской, расписное окно.
