The THETIS was a bark-rigged steamer which was built at Dundee, Scotland, as a whaler. She was purchased by the United States governement for the relief of the Franklin polar expedition. In 1900, she was added to the Northwest revenue cutter fleet. (pg. 57) Notes from Gordon Newell, ed., The H.W.
