English: General-content map of the present-day borough of Brooklyn (Kings County, New York City) and Queens County before the detachment of its eastern portion in 1898 to form Nassau County. Shows incorporated cities, towns (townships), roads, rural buildings, and rural householders' names; shows street system in urban areas. Hand colored to distinguish administrative areas of cities and towns (townships). Prime meridian: City Hall, New York City. "Entered according to Act of Congress in A.D. 1859 by H.F. Walling in the ... Southern District of New York." Printed in northern/southern segments (sheets). LC copy imperfect: The 8 original sheets were conjoined to form a single sheet (wall map), later halved, mounted on cloth backing, both sheets thirded to enable folding, brittle. LC Land ownership maps, 505 Includes table of distances and local business directories. Insets: Astoria (Newtown) -- Manhasset (N. Hempstead) -- Roslyn (North Hempstead) -- Mineola (N.
