Description	Stanley Kubrick decided to make the original theatrical poster for The Shining (1980) black on yellow. The poster's graphic artist, Saul Bass, had intended it to be black on red, with black on white text in a small black at the bottom. This is that original red version, which Saul Bass commissioned a small print run of due to his dissatisfaction with Kubrick's yellow version. It features an unsettling, angry-looking, underlit, pointillistic doll-like face (which does not appear in the film) peering through the letters "The", with "SHiNiNG" below. As mentioned, the art is black against a "blood"-red background, while a compact list of credits appears in a small black on white block at the bottom of the poster.

Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8)	Illustration for the "Ad campaigns" section of The Shining (film), which primarily discusses this poster and the final version, which Kubrick changed from red to yellow against the wishes of Saul Bass. The yellow poster was previously the lead image in the article, but consensus decision in Talk:The Shining (film)#Film poster by Saul Bass removed was to replace it with File:The Shining (1980) U.K. release poster - The tide of terror that swept America IS HERE.jpg, but to add a new discussion of the yellow poster and its red predecessor in the "Release" section of the article, as the correspondence between Kubrick and Bass in deciding on the poster design is notable.
Not replaceable with free media because (WP:NFCC#1)	Specific discussion of an original copyrighted artwork; no substitute is possible.
Minimal use (WP:NFCC#3)	Image to be used in The Shining (film)'s "Ad campaigns" section only. The "yellow doll-face" theatrical poster image was originally the lead image for the article, but consensus decision was to replace it there, but to still include it, due to its notability. This notability includes a discussion of how Kubrick and Bass decided on the poster design, including this red variant that Bass had intended to be the final design. This is the full image of this poster, as is standard practice, but it has been reduced to a minimal resolution of ~100,000 pixels, per Wikipedia:Non-free content.
Respect for commercial opportunities (WP:NFCC#2)	The poster was only printed in a limited print run in 1980. The only potential effect the appearance in this article would have would be to increase awareness of this version of the poster and increase its value on the used market. It also might lead the current owners of Bass' copyrights to commission a new run, which would be a help, not a harm, to their commercial opportunities.
