Object history La obra, creída como original de Parmigianino y perteneciente a la Colección Real española, se hallaba en el Real Monasterio de San Lorenzo del Escorial, pero fue robada durante la Guerra de la Independencia Española. Adquirida por el conde Brouk, embajador del rey de Dinamarca en París, la obra fue comprada a su viuda por el rey Guillermo I en 1823, pasando a formar parte de las colecciones del Museo Mauritshuis de La Haya.
