This simple flag image could be re-created using vector graphics as an SVG file. This has several advantages; see Commons:Media for cleanup for more information. If an SVG form of this image is available, please upload it and afterwards replace this template with {{vector version available|new image name}}.

It is recommended to name the SVG file “The African American Flag.svg”—then the template Vector version available (or Vva) does not need the new image name parameter.

Summary

Description

Introduction: One of the newer flags among those used in the United States to symbolize distinct ethnic groups, designed by Frank Weston, under the auspices of the African Committee for the United Nations Diplomatic Consular Corps (ACUNDC).

The flag is dark brown with a broad golden yellow V with its two arms on the hoist just short of the upper and lower hoist corners. Its rounded point extends directly toward but falls short of the fly; the wedge-shaped area inside the V is forest green and bears a golden yellow five-pointed star pointing toward the top of the flag.

The Brown stands for the African people. The V symbolizes a protective African spear as well as the wealth of the African Americans and the natural resources of Africa itself. The dark green area represents, when the flag is displayed with the V pointing downward, God, justice and unity as the only route to victory; when displayed pointing upward it denotes the house of the Lord. The golden star indicates the open doorway of life through which all pass, God, faith and unity therein.

This flag is fictitious, proposed, or locally used unofficially. It has not been adopted in an official capacity, and although it may be named as if it was an official flag of a geographical or other entity and have some visual elements that are similar to official logos or flags of that entity, it does not have any official recognition. A flag of this type should not be added to any articles or pages unless it is officially proposed by a government agency, covered by the media, or sees notable local use.
