Summary

Description
English: Looking westerly at one of the two "cottage-type" fire control buildings on Strawberry Point in Scituate, MA. Built during WW2, this building was meant to look like a seaside cottage, and has in fact now been remodeled for just this type of use. The original poured concrete chimney and the two rows of vision slits (now fitted with modern replacement windows) for the observing instruments mark its original purpose, however. The shed-roofed entryway and the rear deck were added-on since the war. During WW2, this structure contained two base end stations and an observation post for the Southern Command of the Boston Harbor defenses (which commanded all guns south of Boston). It also contained barracks space for the soldiers who manned the observation stations.
