Summary

Description
English: St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 68 Eagle Street at North Ellicott Street, Williamsville, New York, July 2020. An excellent example of the vernacular Gothic Revival church architecture of the early to mid-19th century, especially notable features include the drip molding crowning the pointed arches of the windows, the decorative woodwork adorning the rake of the frontal gable, and the decorative brackets supporting the pyramidal roof on the bell tower. Dating to 1834, when it was built as the home to a Disciples of Christ congregation, this building passed into Lutheran hands in 1870, where it initially served as a "mission congregation" of a larger church located three miles down Main Street in Eggertsville and was served by a single pastor who travelled between the two locations. In 1885, St. Paul's called its own pastor and thus became an independent congregation in its own right. Today, the tenacious little church continues to serve a small but vibrant congregation of several hundred and has been a registered local landmark of the Village of Williamsville since 2014.
