Description
English: "An English 18th century portrait miniature of a gentleman in a navy blue coat On ivory laid on paper, signed H. Janvzy and dated 1796, verso inscribed Sir Wharton Emmerson Amcotts Bt. of Kettlethorp [sic] Park Co., Lincoln, oval glazed in white metal frame. Note: Sir Wharton Amcotts 1st Bt. (1740-1807) of Kettlethorpe Park, Lincs. held the office of Member of Parliament for Retford between 1780-1802. He was given the name of Wharton Emmerson at birth but his name was legally changed to Wharton Amcotts by Royal licence on 13th May 1777. He was created 1st Baronet Amcotts of Kettlethorpe Park, County Lincoln on 11th May 1796."
