English: This is a photograph of SS Valencia around 1900, during her service with the Pacific Steam Whaling Company. This ownership would end in 1901 and would be transferred to the Pacific Coast Steamship Company. Five years later, Valencia sank in one of the worst maritime accidents in the Pacific Northwest, killing over 130 people. |

This photograph displays Valencia before her 1905 and 1902 refits. Her original 1882 pilot house is still in operation, as it is not blocked by an extra structure constructed on her bow yet and the hurricane and fiddler's decks have not been fully constructed either. The funnel appears to be broader and slightly shorter than the one Valencia sported on her final voyage in 1906. The ship also appears to be devoid of a well deck and retains much of her original Red D Line profile.
