Description
Español: Retrato de José Moreno Nieto (1825-1882). Como catedrático de árabe en Granada, ayudó a traducir las inscripciones de la Alhambra. También escribió el libro 'Gramática de la Lengua Arábica' (1872); allí fue además miembro de la tertulia de La Cuerda junto a Pedro Antonio de Alarcón y Manuel del Palacio, entre otros. Además, en 1861 consiguió en la Facultad de Derecho la cátedra de Historia de los Tratados. Fue decano de la Facultad de Derecho de la Universidad Central y entre 1871 y 1874 rector de la misma. También fue Presidente del Ateneo, y académico de la Historia, de la de Ciencias Morales y Políticas, de la de Jurisprudencia y Legislación. Director General de Instrucción Pública (1874), diputado a Cortes por Granada en 1844 y en los años 1865 y 1867, diputado por Badajoz, distrito de Castuera. Fue asimismo un político destacado, escritor, erudito arabista y un gran aficionado a la historia. "Ecléctico en sus planteamientos filosóficos y defensor de un espiritualismo cristiano, destaca por sus críticas tanto al racionalismo como al neocatolicismo".
