English: A reproduction Ipswich Lace pillow with a reproduced copy of a black silk Ipswich bobbin lace edging from 1790 has been on display in the Smithsonian American History Museum in Washington, DC since 2000. It represents the important handmade bobbin lace industry in Ipswich, Massachusetts in the late 1700s. The lace is a reproduction of a pattern in the collection in the Museum and the corresponding lace sample in the Library of Congress's Alexander Hamilton Collection. Reproduction by Karen Thompson. The lace pillow is stuffed with straw and covered in linen. The bobbins are hand whittled and the brass pins and handmade. The exhibit is called "Within These Walls..." and displays a full-size house from Ipswich, MA with various artifacts to interpret the lives of 5 generations of inhabitants in this house. |
