Summary

This is a photo of listed building number 1351456.

Description
English: Poplar Farmhouse, Brettenham Formerly known as 'Popples' and shown thus on OS maps, this building is listed Grade II*, indicating that it is one of the finer and more rare dwellings. According to Heritage Gateway, the timber-framed building with exposed timber-framing and plaster infill dates from the 15th century. The upper storey is jettied on the whole of the west front on exposed joists and a fine carved bressumer and curved brackets. The upper storey is also jettied at the south end (as in this view). There is an unjettied extension at the north end, also with exposed timber-framing. There are a number of original but restored windows, some of which are blocked, at the north end. The windows generally are modern mullioned and transomed metal casements with leaded lights. There is a moat on the west and south sides, with a bridge across its western arm.
