Summary

Description

Built between 1853 & 1856, this historic Church has witnessed vast changes in Chicago. It is one of the few buildings in the area that survived the Great Chicago Fire. Once boasting one of the largest congregations in the city, the church was nearly torn down in the 1950's as expressway construction tore a path directly behind it. The Church found itself nearly alone in the neighborhood in the late 70's and early 80's. It is noted that only 4 people were registered members of the church at one point in 1983.

Today, a condo within walking distance to the church can run anywhere from $300,000 to well over a million dollars and I often encounter large crowds leaving church on Sundays!
