English: A 1944 Fremont News Messenger article describes, “Staff Sergeant Harry J. Stickel was given an air medal at this base in the South Pacific for meritorious achievement while participating in aerial combat flights of a hazardous nature over enemy territory. The award was presented March 2 by Brigadier Goss, a New Zealand Commander at the base of the 13th army air force. Sergeant Stickel has 28 missions to his credit against Jap instillations and air fields during 10 months overseas.” The picture above was handed down in a family collection without any other information.
