Title
medieval to post medieval horn or ivory comb
Description
English: A fragment of a medieval to post medieval double-sided ivory comb. It is a segment of the comb from the centre; both ends are missing. There is a set of coarse teeth (c. 1-2 per 5mm) and fine teeth (c. 6 per 5mm). The fragment is undecorated and is mid brown. It measures 17.4mm (length) x 50.9mm (width) x 3.0mm (thickness) and weighs 1.86g.

A similar comb is illustrated in Egan et al 1991 ( 368-370, ref. 1721) and is from an early 14th century deposit. However Macgregor (1985, 82; ref. 47e) discuss a similar comb as 16th centry. Therefore a wide medieval to post medieval date range is suggested for this comb.
