Summary

Description
English: Map shows the Union and Confederate troop movements during September 1862 in the southwest portion of what became West Virginia.
Date
Source This is a portion of a map from chapter 3 of the book Military Reminiscences of the Civil War, by Jacob Dolson Cox. It was published in 1900. The map has been modified to show Civil War troop movements in the Kanawha River Valley during September 1862. To avoid being ambushed by Confederate cavalry, Lightburn took an indirect route to Point Pleasant by turning north to Ripley and Ravenswood—and then moving west on the Ohio side of the Ohio River to Point Pleasant.
