Nederlands: Portret van Joan Melchior Kemper, rechtsgeleerde en staatsman. Staande, ten voeten uit bij een tafeltje, met zijn linkerhand op een wetboek. Op de achtermuur plaketten van koning Willem I en de Nederlandse Leeuw. Op zijn borst draagt Kemper de versierselen van de benoeming tot Commandeur in de Orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw, verleend op 18 november 1815 (in tegenstelling tot de datum november 1813 op het schilderij).
