Description
This is a copy of one of Juel's 1798 portraits of Suhm. He made two almost identical, to different dimensions, numbered 705 and 706 by Ellen Poulsen. One is at The Royal Library in Copenhagen, the other, smaller, at the collection in Frederiksborg Castle. This would be a copy of no. 705 from the Royal Library.

  • His auction 1837, no. 104, sold as “Brystbillede af Kammerherre Suhm, Copie”.
  • F. S. Bang. His auction 1884 no. 33, sold as “Suhm, Brystbillede, naturlig Størrelse. Gentagelse af Maleriet paa det store kongelige Bibliotek, købt paa Bugges Auktion 1837. Bought by Mrs. Wain."
  • Sold at Bruun Rasmussen Auctions on March 7, 2006 for DKK 10,000 (EUR 1,350). Lot 754/1007.
