Description
English: View of Building 34 of the former General Electric manufacturing complex in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Built 1910, demolished 2003. GE's Pittsfield complex was extensively contaminated with PCBs and other chemicals between the 1930s and 1970s, and subsequently was designated as a "Superfund" cleanup site by US EPA in 1997. EPA and GE began a massive cleanup of the site and the adjacent Housatonic River in 2000.
