Hans Hess standing in front of an early ice drilling rig on the Hintereisferner, 31 July 1906, between 4:00 p.m. and 4:35 p.m. The location is described as "La place choisie pour les expériences était située à 3.500 mètres du front du glacier, entre la rive gauche et la moraine médiane issue de la Langtaufererspitze."
