Summary

Description A Vought F-8E Crusader (BuNo 150912) from Marine fighter squadron VMF(AW)-212 Lancers in 1965. The aircraft is armed with AIM-9D Sidewinder missiles. VMF(AW)-212 was assigned to Attack Carrier Air Wing Sixteen (CVW-16) aboard the aircraft carrier USS Oriskany (CVA-34) for a deployment to Vietnam from 5 April to 16 December 1965. VMF(AW)-212 kept its tail code "WD", although CVW-16's aircraft carried the tail code "AH". The F-8E shown in the picture was piloted by Capt. M.W. Lutes U.S.M.C.
