Summary

Description
English: Site of Escrick station on former section through Selby of the East Coast Main Line, 1991.
View southward, towards Selby, Doncaster and the South: ex-NER (Doncaster) - Shaftholme Junction - Selby - York - Darlington - Newcastle - Berwick) section of the ECML. To avoid speed restrictions due to new mining subsidences and the river swing-bridges at Selby and at Naburn, 16 miles of a new main line (the Selby Diversion) was built (opened October 1983) to the west of the old ECML, from Temple Hirst to Colton Junction (on the Leeds - York line). The old main line was abandoned between Barlby Junction (east of Selby) and Challoners Whin Junction near York, but Escrick station on this stretch had been closed earlier (passengers 8/6/53, goods 11/9/61).
