Sepia postcard of Eddington, Herne Bay, Kent, England. Postmarked "London W., 2pm, 5 Oct 14A". The picture shows the original village or hamlet long before the area became a suburb of Herne Bay. Most of the buildings in the photo still exist. The site is on the east side of the Canterbury Road (A299), just north of Priory House at the southern end of Eddington. Points of interest: The house in the foreground is in the Kentish vernacular style with whitewashed weatherboarding and Georgian window frames, but the taller houses are late Victorian. Farmland can be seen beyond the buildings. There is no footpath. This site is now the Canterbury Road, looking north. |
