Summary

Description
English: Example stratigraphic cross-section of a sedimentary basin constructed using correlation of well log data from multiple wells, in combination with biostratigraphic faunal zones derived from micropaleontologic study of well cuttings, to understand basin fill architecture. This particular example is from deep marine sediments of the Upper Cretaceous Great Valley Group that represent the forearc basin fill of the Sacramento Basin in California. This example was used as one data set to confirm the presence of a previously undiscovered fossil submarine canyon that incised thousands of feet into underlying marine sediments.
