| Description |
English: Dockyard buildings at Pembroke Dock The building to the right was built as a storehouse for shipwrights or other trades when the Royal Dockyard was established. It originally had a above the triangular pediment but this was destroyed by fire in 1944, as illustrated in the book below, when the building was used by an Squadron that flew flying boats from the Dockyard. It was possibly the largest flying boat base in the UK during the 1939-45 war. It has been converted for use now as offices.
The nearer building may have originally been built as offices for Royal Dockyard officials and is still used as offices; 1416417 shows the other side of this building which is currently called "Sunderland House" in reference to the Dockyard's role during the 1939-45 war. Source - the book "Pembrokeshire Reflections" by John Evans, Isbn: 1870745 12 4, which is an interesting source of information on Pembroke Dock's very varied military and subsequent history. |
