Summary[edit]

This picture was first published in the Evening Star in Washington DC on August 24, 1938. The photo was taken by an Evening Star photographer. It is the only known representation of an alternative flag design presented by the Daughters of the American Revolution. It is also the only known photo of the event when that design was one of only two selected by the Flag Commission to potentially become the flag of the District of Columbia.

Purpose of use	The picture is used to show that the alternative design of what the flag of the District of Columbia could have looked like, as well as shows the way the Commission, presented it to the journalists present during the August 24, 1938 announcement.
Replaceable?	This is the only known representation of the flag design that is known to exist. No alternative of the time can be found. The event can also not be reproduced as it happened on August 24, 1938.
