English: One of few remnants of the town wall on the east side of the City. The original course of the town wall was changed in the 14th century in order to accommodate the settlement of Pandon, which had been granted to Newcastle in 1298. This tower was built at the right-angled corner where the original (13th-century) course of the wall (seen on the right of the picture heading south towards the river) was diverted off to the east. From here it ran towards the Sallyport Tower, and thence down to the river.
