English: Chest binders in various skin tones, displayed as part of the stretch and compression fabrics exhibition Second Skin: The Science of Stretch at the Chemical Heritage Foundation. The exhibition ran from November 4, 2016 to May 13, 2017. Chest binders are made of a mix of nylon, spandex and cotton. They can be used by transgender and gender nonconforming people to contour the body to a desired appearance. They can also be used by male impersonators as a costume tool. |
