R-17 Archtop
1936 Serial #62691 [?]
The solid mahogany top of the R-17 was
pressed into an arched shape as opposed to
being carved and the F-holes were cut in
three section like a stencil rather than
being configured.[?] These frugal measures no
doubt contributed to the models demise in
1942, though a surprising 940 had been sold.
R-215 Archtop.
1938, Serial #70987. [?]
Style R archtops were simaller than 000
sized Style C models that preceded them.
Introduced in 1933 as the 00-185 model,
early examples had round soundholes, but
these soon evolved to the more accepted
F-hole configuration. This particular guitar is
the only R model ever made in rosewood.
