Summary

Description
English: Reading Tramways Company. Horse-tram No. 4 in Broad Street, c. 1900, heading eastwards on the "Barracks - Cemetery - Palmer Park" route. The driver, conductor and inspector pose for the camera. The saloon is almost empty, but the upper deck is thronged, and there are several spectators in the picture. Recognisable shops in the background: No. 50 (William McIlroy, boot and shoe warehouse); No. 49 (William Archer oils, colours, paints and varnishes); Nos. 47 amd 48 (A. H. Bull, gentlemen's and boys' outfitters); No. 46 (Dowsett Brothers, brewers). 1900-1909 : photograph by Walton Adams. There are postcard versions at Dynix 1244283 and 1244284.
