Summary

Description
English: Bretford Bridge Originally (as the name implies) there was a ford at Bretford crossing the River Avon. The first mention of a bridge was in 1279; this bridge was extensively repaired in 1653 and rebuilt in the 18th century leaving the present narrow carriageway which has to be controlled with traffic lights. At the time of this photograph, Warwickshire County Council had announced that a major programme of repairs was necessary that will take approximately three months. The road here is the A428 which in full connects Coventry with Cambridge; this is the only point where it crosses the Avon.
