Description
English: Thomas P. Coates (1803-1895), was the conductor of the first regimental band of the 47th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry during the American Civil War, and the pre- and post-war conductor of Pomp's Cornet Band in Easton, Pennsylvania. He was also a prolific composer of band and orchestral music, and was nicknamed the "Father of Band Music in America."
