Description

Austrian federal president's Dr. Heinz Fischer, re-election party. It happened in so-called 'oval hall' of Vienna's MQ. Admitteldy, there was a shockingly low en:voter turnout, due to several reasons:

  1. It was obvious that Mr. Fischer would win. Austrian presidents running for a second term of office won eversince.
  2. The only other major Party, ÖVP [Fischer comes from opposite SPÖ, although his membership is resting since he became president], did not nominate a candidate, nor endorsed any of the eventually three candidates; some prominent persons from ÖVP, inoffically, but in public, even suggested to vote 'null and void', which did some ~7% of the voters.
  3. There was extremely fine weather on that day, after a long time of bad weather, which might have seduced some people to stay in the sun instead of voting. It's Austria. ;))
