Epagoge grotiana, common name brown-barred tortrix, is a moth of the family Tortricidae, first described by Johan Christian Fabricius in 1781.[2]
Description[edit]
Epagoge grotiana has a wingspan of about 13–17 millimetres (0.51–0.67 in).[3][4] Forewings have a yellowish ochreous ground colour with brown markings. Adults are on wing from June to August and are active around dusk and at dawn.[4][5] The larvae mainly feed on oak, Crataegus and Rubus species.[4] They live within a rolled leaf, where they also overwinter.[3][5]
Distribution and habitat[edit]
This species can be found in most of Europe and in the Near East.[6] It mainly occurs in deciduous woodlands and on sand-dunes.[4]
