Bradin Carl Hagens (born May 12, 1989) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the TSG Hawks of the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL). He has previously played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Arizona Diamondbacks. He has also played in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) for the Hiroshima Toyo Carp and in the CPBL for the Rakuten Monkeys.
Career[edit]
Arizona Diamondbacks[edit]
Hagens was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the sixth round of the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft out of Merced College.[1] He was called up to the majors for the first time and made his debut on August 14, 2014. Hagens was optioned back to the AAA Reno Aces on August 18, after making two appearances with the Diamondbacks.[2] He was outrighted off the Diamondbacks roster on August 21, 2014.
Tampa Bay Rays[edit]
He was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays on April 4, 2015.[3] He elected free agency on November 6, 2015.[4]
Hiroshima Toyo Carp[edit]
In 2016 he signed for Hiroshima Carp of Japan.[1]
Second stint with Diamondbacks[edit]
On February 16, 2018, Hagens returned stateside and signed a minor league deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks.[5] He elected free agency on November 3, 2018.
Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks[edit]
On April 1, 2019, Hagens signed with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks of the American Association.
Third stint with Diamondbacks[edit]
On May 20, 2019, Hagens's contract was purchased by the Arizona Diamondbacks and he was assigned to the Triple-A Reno Aces.[6] He elected free agency on November 7, 2019.
Second stint with RedHawks[edit]
On March 18, 2020, Hagens signed with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball
Rakuten Monkeys[edit]
On December 30, 2020, Hagens signed with the Rakuten Monkeys of the Chinese Professional Baseball League.[7] On September 20, 2021, Hagens set a CPBL record with 25 consecutive scoreless appearances without allowing a run.[8] In 53 games, he posted a 6–4 record and 2.79 ERA with 43 strikeouts in 80+2⁄3 innings pitched. Following the season, the CPBL announced Hagens as a Gold Glove winner for the 2021 season.[9]
On January 8, 2022, Hagens re-signed with the Monkeys for the 2022 season.[10] In 59 relief outings, he registered a 1.44 ERA with 65 strikeouts and 36 saves across 68+2⁄3 innings pitched. In 2023, Hagens appeared in 50 contests for Rakuten, pitching to a 3.26 ERA with 42 strikeouts and 13 saves across 58.0 innings of work. He became a free agent following the 2023 season.
TSG Hawks[edit]
On March 1, 2024, Hagens signed with the TSG Hawks of the Chinese Professional Baseball League.[11]
