DescriptionAlexander Muir Public School, Gladstone Ave., west side, north of Waterloo Ave.; INTERIOR. (17203753148).jpg
Everyone’s talking about teachers and their students today. This 1902 photograph of the Alexander Muir/Gladstone Ave. public school shows the principle, Alexander Muir, and Miss Adda Burger, the teacher of this grade 5 class. Mr Muir is best known for having written the song “Maple Leaf Forever”. The original school (Alexander Muir), built in 1888, welcomed students in grades 1-6. The adjoining building (Gladstone Ave.), built in 1952, housed grades 7 and 8.
